Today I finished the book A Voter's Guide: Election 2008 by Franklin Foer and the editors of The New Republic. As I read this book I searched to understand biases and find the differences between the realities and the inconsistencies. In scanning the internet one will find everything from a second grader's opinion rant on the most recent video game to the point of view of scholar's and well-known politicians. It is an amazing realm of information- the internet. But how can one trust the content? What type of regulation exists? As far as I am concerned- books are still unbelievably valuable. I may be one of the last students here that actually knows how to use IUCAT (granted this online catalog system is priceless and necessary) and still checks out books from the library for research. We can't underestimate the extent to which scholar's that publish books actually fact check and attempt to maintain credibility. With that, I still promote published materials rather than just Wikipedia searches for research!!
